The economics of Arts and Culture

Professor William T. Ganley and CEPS Director Bruce L. Fisher led a graduate seminar on this issue. Guest speakers from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the major art galleries, arts organizations, foundations and from the fine-arts marketplace offered their perspectives on historical and prospective challenges. As this inquiry unfolds, we will address input-output analysis, the multiplier effect, public funding, the peculiarities of supply and demand for the "commodity" of culture and other issues. CEPS will host a forum on the economic impact of cuts in arts funding in 2010.
